Name: James Huang
Team: Design
How long you’ve been in Engineering:
I’ve been involved with
Engineering for four years, but this is the second year that I am
actually taking the class. I participated in the after-school
projects in previous years.
Leadership Position Description (what you do as
the team leader): As the
Design team leader, I mentor teammates in various software programs,
including AutoCAD, Photoshop, Rhinoceros 3D, and 3D Studio Max. I
collaborate with other team leaders to finish certain projects and
make sure we meet our deadline.
What got you interested in Engineering in the
first place: The first thing that attracted me to Engineering was
the prospect of building a solar car and competing with other teams
across the nation. Although I didn’t have a chance to do this yet, I
found my passion modeling stuff in 3D. Drafting, modeling, and doing
a little visualization for presentations are some of my everyday
jobs.
Favorite thing about Engineering: I’ve learned
how to use industry standard software and get to see my designs from
the computer screen turn into real, actual objects. I also have a
chance to taste what working in teams will be like; this
student-operated program gives everyone responsibility and
consequences, which I find exciting.
Most memorable moment in Engineering: When the
Composites team leader ate 10 jalapeño peppers.
What projects have you worked on and when was
that?
Botball (9th, 10th)
Solar Boat (11th)
Infusion (12th)
DARPA (12th)
Future Plans: I’m still not sure about my future
plans, but I might pursue a degree in engineering and business. I
want to start my own business later on. I am also interested in
being involved in the movie industry. Nothing can be sure right now;
there are just too many random variables!
