Name: Brett Wiltz
Team: Mechanical
How long you’ve been in Engineering: 3 years
Leadership Position Description (what you do as
the team leader): As
co-team leader of the mechanical team I have multiple
responsibilities. First,
since we are in a position where we have a lot of new members, I
have to constantly be able to and be responsible for teaching the
new members how to work the machines and the different principles of
mechanics. Second, I have to distribute the tasks to the different
team members to make sure everyone has a task and that deadlines are
being met. Third, I am part of the team and so have projects and
tasks of my own to complete.
What got you interested in Engineering in the
first place: I've always
loved working with my hands. It was actually pure chance that I
found out about the program. I
was in Mr. Franz's Introduction to Computer Science class before my
freshman year simply because I got registered late and it was the
only class that still had room.
From there, I found out about Engineering and the rest is
history...
Favorite thing about Engineering: Comradeship.
The people are great; everyone pulls their own weight. You
can trust everyone. It gets to the point where the people here are
like family.
Most memorable moment in Engineering: One thing
that is memorable for me is the day we first ran the Dragster.
We had put a lot of time and energy into it, and for its
first test run, I got to drive it. It
was a lot of fun.
Projects Worked On and what grade you were in:
Dragster (10th)
Solar
Shadow III (11th)
Infusion
(10th, 11th, 12th)
DARPA (12th)
Future Plans:
I will hopefully be attending college at the University of Colorado
at Colorado Springs.
I want to become a teacher, most likely at an elementary
school.
