CURTIS WONG
I am a senior majoring in Electrical Engineering at
the University of Southern California. While a member
of the LAAE from 2001 to 2003, I participated in the
BYDV Competition and worked on several solar cars and
the fuel cell vehicle with the electrical team. Since
I’ve been in college, I’ve been fortunate to secure
EE related internships every summer in the aerospace/defense
industry. I have a feeling that I was like many of the
current LAAE students who view our organization as a
challenging yet fun opportunity to learn about engineering
in a practical sense. It wasn’t until I actually started
interviewing for internships that I realized the LAAE
had all along been preparing me for just that. The skills
I learned, both technical and social, were influential
in getting jobs as well as providing the foundation
to perform them. My former mentor at Northrop Grumman
Space Technology told me that my ability to communicate
to team members was one of my greatest assets, which
of course I learned in the LAAE. My advice to the current
students would be to make the most of their time in
engineering because likely, they will be able to pull
from these experiences and apply them in the future.
