AVAILABLE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -
Hacienda Heights, CA: The Los Altos Academy of Engineering has, for
the first time ever, successfully ran the Infusion Hydrogen Fuel
Cell Vehicle outside of their building on September 9, 2006. It is
the ONLY vehicle made by a high school to run independently on
hydride tanks.
This was taken from an informational
e-mail sent out by Aaron Norris, Electrical Team Leader:
LAAE
completed the hydrogen fuel cell car on Saturday. We are
the only entity in the world (as far as we know, and
we've researched a great deal) that has a car that runs
off of hydride technology. These hydride tanks store the
hydrogen as a slush in a heavy metal tank. We think that
we will be able to run the car for over one hour at a
constant speed of 40 mph, consuming less energy then it
takes to run a hairdryer. For the body, we used a
composite process that no other high school in the
nation has used before for a car. This process, called
infusion, makes strong and light composite pieces.
The car weighs a little over 400 lbs (excluding the
under 5-foot driver) and is about twelve feet long.

This significant milestone has brought
us closer to building a world that is capable of being safer,
cleaner, and more fuel-efficient.
